GHBA Breaks Ground on 2017 Benefit Home in Lago Mar
Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA) members, including dignitaries representing Land Tejas and Westin Homes, gathered in Lago Mar on April 9 to mark the official groundbreaking of the latest GHBA Benefit Home.
Land Tejas, the developer of Lago Mar, donated the land for the home which will be built by Westin Homes. This is the 15th homesite that Land Tejas has donated to the 37-year-old charity fundraiser.
Each year, two or three homes are built for the Benefit Homes Project with donated materials, labor and services from GHBA members. The homes, constructed with options and upgrades, are then sold at market value for a profit — the majority of which is donated to charities. This year’s proceeds will benefit HomeAid Houston and Operation Finally Home. The GHBA fundraiser has raised more than $10 million since its inception.
Westin is building its Carter III plan within the palm-tree studded Lago Mar community. The two-story design will feature the builder’s signature tiered rotunda and floor-to-ceiling bay windows as well as four bedrooms, 3.5 baths, a formal dining room and a game room.
Westin is one of seven builders offering homes in the well-located community, which offers easy access to downtown Houston and the sun and sand of Galveston Island along the Interstate 45 corridor. Inside Lago Mar, residents will enjoy amenities such as a resort-style pool and expansive clubhouse. Just outside the gates is the Tanger Outlet mall. A 25-acre amusement park, Adventure Pointe, is currently under construction next door
Land Tejas is one of the largest developers of master-planned communities in the Houston area, having developed in excess of 10,000 acres of land into master-planned communities with more than 60,000 residents over the past 20 years.
