National Beach Day is Aug. 30, making it the perfect time to soak up the sun, feel the sand between your toes and revel in the beauty of the coastline — something easy to do if you live in Lago Mar. Our community is just 30 minutes from Galveston’s 32 miles of beautiful coastline. Ready to celebrate? Here are some creative ideas.

Pack a Picnic

Pack a basket and head to Stewart Beach. This sandy playground was voted one of the “10 Best Beaches for Families” by the Family Vacation Critic. If you forgot something, there’s a snack bar. Additional amenities include showers, restrooms, chair and umbrella rental, beach wheelchairs and more.

Play Some Games

Grab your extended family and friends and head to East Beach for fun and games. Choose sides and have fun on the sand volleyball courts or hang out in the game room. East Beach is known for festivals, concerts and the annual sandcastle competition. It’s also one of the few beaches allowing alcohol.

Collect Seashells

Send the kids out to collect seashells, unique rocks, and other treasures. Take them home and have them create keepsakes to remind them of their special day at the beach.

Bring a Book

Galveston’s West End Pocket Parks are great places to relax and immerse yourself in a good book. The sound of the waves and the gentle rhythm of the tide make for a perfect backdrop to escape into a literary adventure.

Take a stroll along Seawall Boulevard and check out the beachside restaurants lining its 10-mile sidewalk. Most restaurants offer incredible views, and you’re sure to dine on the best seafood around.

Galveston isn’t hosting a National Beach Day cleanup day, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do your part. Gather a group of friends or family members and work together to pick up litter and ensure the beach remains pristine for future visitors.
