DISD Bond Paves Way for Education Upgrades

As Dickinson ISD continues to grow in overall students, facilities and safety improvements can now be made to help accommodate the increasing numbers.

The Dickinson Independent School District Bond 2020 has passed, providing $94.2 million in funds to DISD for expansion and facility upgrades spanning elementary through high school.

As part of the changes, parents and students can look forward to:

-A new junior high school

-Districtwide security upgrades such as ballistic window film and receptionist-controlled door access

-Additions and renovations to technology such as computer systems

-Agriculture center upgrades

-Running track fixes at McAdams Junior High

-Parking lot replacement at Hughes Road Elementary

-And more!

The district is projecting substantial growth in the next 10 years, in some cases doubling the average amount of students for schools. The Dickinson ISD Facility Task Force has been meeting since last November to plan out accommodations to ensure each student has access to the best educational experience possible. With this goal in mind, the task force has allocated funds for districtwide campus improvements.

“Dickinson ISD is a fast-growing district, and we are committed to providing high-quality experiences in safe and secure learning environments for our students,” said Carla Voelkel, DISD Superintendent.

Simultaneously, the district is also realigning grade levels to better balance the number of students in each facility. Elementary schools will now encompass Pre-K through third grades; middle schools, fourth and fifth grades; and junior high, sixth through eighth grades. This is due in part to recently approved legislation requiring implementation of a full-day kindergarten throughout the district. Grade realignments will go into effect no sooner than August 2022.

If your family already calls the area home or you are considering settling down here in Lago Mar, you can rest assured that your young students will have the resources necessary to achieve academic greatness.
