Have Fun, Burn Calories on Our Lagoon

Living in Lago Mar is like having a tropical resort in your backyard. A place where you can relax and work on your tan while the kids build sandcastles and splash in the water. But there is more to lagoon life than lazing on the beach — you can burn calories and build muscle, too.

Here are three activities we love.

Kayaks

Kayaking is the ultimate water activity that you don’t even realize is exercise. Kayaking works your upper body and gives you a great cardio workout. When you paddle, you are working your triceps, biceps, shoulders and upper back. Balancing as you paddle works your core and even your legs benefit from the pressure you put on your foot braces. Kayaking is low impact and workout-friendly no matter how old you are.

Stand Up Paddle Boards

Want to increase your balance and stability? A stand-up paddleboard or SUP might be just what you’ve been looking for. Using a SUP works your quads, glutes and hamstrings as well as your upper body. You need to balance so you don’t end up in the water, which means using your core muscles. Paddle into a strong breeze for an additional challenge. Want to add a flexibility workout? Try some yoga poses.

Swimming

Swimming is the exercise we associate with water the most. It’s a great low-impact, total-body workout and you don’t even have to worry about sweating. The best part is that you can exercise in the water without boring laps. Just walking in the water can improve muscle tone as the water creates resistance. For more of a workout, invest in foam dumbbells and do arm lifts, don ankle or wrist weights and do some jumping jacks or work your legs with a kickboard.
